Glow Effect in Photoshop

In this tutorial, we're going to create some really sharp-looking glow effects using a combination of layer styles, the Pen Tool and Color Blending. The end effect is quite stunning and hopefully you'll pick up some tips you didn't know before.
As with pretty much every tutorial I've ever written, we begin with a radial gradient. This one is pretty harsh and goes from a reddish brown color to black. Here are the exact color codes:
Foreground color - #922f00
Background color - #000000

Making up photo

There are times when a regular photo just doesn't cut it and you need your photo to pack a punch. Here is one technique that you may find useful.
As with all photo-based techniques, it doesn't really make up for having a crappy photo though, so if you are trying to rescue something ugly don't get your hopes up too high!
Before we get started, lets compare the original with the result. As you'll see we're taking a great photo and making it really punchy by getting it really contrasty and changing the color palette.

Make a Shield in photoshop

In this tutorial, we're going to use the Path Tools in Photoshop to draw a shield-like shape. Then using some gradients, we're going to give it a metallic edge and shiny center. I actually made this tutorial when making the default icons for some posts here on aztutorial, so if you go to the main listing on the site you'll see them in action.

Create Metalic Style

BACKGROUND LAYER
We start as always with a background gradient. I've used a Radial Gradient with two shades of a lovely light green. The exact color codes are:

Background color - #7eb704
